Supportive wife- check
Crazy husband- check
Blog post- check
Mark has begun this great little adventure over at the Third Day Blog called "Third Day on the Third Day". Catchy title!!!
Each month on the 3rd he will have a time for fans to write what they want about the band and link back to the Third Day blog. Being the afore mentioned supportive wife I am I thought- why not???
Really, he didn't MAKE me do it!!!
So, what to say, well I plan on posting some great fun times we as a family have had- where to begin.....
Cleveland, TN- sometime before the earth was cooling in 1994
Picture it, a bunch of stinky men and some really cute ladies pile into a van. A van that smells like old food, dirty socks and well...stinky boys- YUCK. We have the trailer hooked up, someone driving and off we head to Cleveland, TN (just a couple hours away from home).
This was a rare time in our life when the girls got to go "on the road" with the guys b/c they were doing this show and then coming right back home. During this time they were so busy that this NEVER happened. It was a small miracle.
So we go without problem to the show. It is being held at Lee College- when we got there we couldn't find where they were supposed to play. They drive around, ask folks where to go, everyone seems frazzled that we talk to mind you, but we still don't know where to go. So finally we get our bearings, Tai is driving and this van/trailer is NOT easy to maneuver. As we approach the building a guard stops the van.... what this is the ROCK STARS!!!
Cop-"You can't come in here"
Third Day- "We are here to do a show tonight this is where we are supposed to set up and play"
Cop- "I don't think so, one of the dorms burnt down and this is what we are using to house the students affected"
ALL OF US- WHAT!!!!
long story short, we DID NOT do that show and NO ONE had told us it was cancelled- NICE.
Being the young, hungry guys they were they decided (after the frustration of driving a few hours for NOTHING subsided) we would just go eat. We are leaving town and just making the best of things and all of a sudden the van is what I would call riding on 2 wheels!!! Somehow we had missed the big curb divider in the road and we ran over it at speeds no less than about 45. It was CRAZY. I just remember we all freaked, noone had seen it and then we all laughed like crazy. I can still think back to that time and laugh.
The last memory I have of that day is we drive by a store called "TAPE CITY", I told you it was a LONG time ago- and Mark declared that if he ever had a store if would be named "SOMETHING CITY" b/c that was the coolest name EVER. WEIRDO!!!!
My tale of early Third Day may not be fun to you but buddy you should see my smile! It is good to remember all the fun, hard, exciting, frustrating, hysterical times I have had with this amazing group of boys that are now some of the finest men I know. One thing I can assure you- Mark, Mac, David & Tai are still the same boys they were back then, a little more mature, a lot more grown up, wiser, funnier, not as STINKY, but still the goofy guys I met some 17 years ago.
