this is how i looked when I saw this.

Tomorrow I will be in the midst of this!! Is this even human???

Why am i going??? Oh, yeah, I've always wanted to go to Alaska. I know I will take a look at this like a scouting mission. I will see how it is and if I like it then maybe we can go back in a few years, during WARMER months!!!

Y'all gots to pray for me. I am a Southern Belle. I handle the 30's like a baby. How will I ever survive??

I know.... I will just keep my eyes peeled for a moose. Sure hope I see one. That will make the trip totally worth it. You see that is on my life list, well if I really had a life list I feel sure it would be on there.

Sure wouldn't mind meeting Sarah Palin either. If any of you know how to contact her and let her know we are coming- DO IT!!!!

Stephanie, it is not that bad up there. I lived in Alaska for 10 yrs. The trick is to layer your clothing and wear wool over the op of it all. You'll have to come back to Alaska in the spring/summer, it is beautiful. You and Mark are welcome to use my cabin up there anytime. I currently am living in Texas. You should find Gov Palin in Juneau by now, as the legislative session has started for the year. Also, this time of the year you'll really beable to see the Northern Lights, they are especially beautiful up in scarebanks (fairbanks :0). Have Fun! Candace

Lots of layers - put a pair of really thin dress socks under your thicker winter socks, or wear a pair of pantyhose. Wear a t-shirt under a turtleneck under a thick sweater. The big this is to layer your chest heavily and your arms not so much because too much bulk makes it hard to move around. Thermals are great too, and flannel lined jeans/pants. Thinsulate lined boots and gloves. Hats that cover your ears, scarves to cover your face and neck, and take the outside in short spurts. When I'm outside working in the cold, I have quilted coveralls that pull over my clothing that keep me really warm - but unless your are going to be out a whole lot, they are overkill.

And I'm a southern belle...or at least southern :) I will say it takes me about a week to "regulate" to the cold weather if it hits suddenly, but you do get used to it. Or maybe it's just all the baked goodies we tend to eat in the winter...hmmm...now that I think on it - you might try that too :)

Oh Stephanie! I feel for you!

I lived in Alaska for 909 days (yes, I counted) before I was recruited back to America, praise God.

It's a beautiful place, but hold on to your return ticket.

Re: Sarah Palin, if you've got a connection, talk to Michael W. Smith. He met with her when his/our cruise stopped in Juneau 18 months ago.

PS: Third Day should consider doing a cruise! We'd go!

Welcome to my world Steph...it is like that ALL the time here in Winnipeg (Winterpeg)...this southern belle just stays inside and enjoys indoor activities for the winter...I hate the cold!!! But I would brave it to see the beauty of Alaska...all we have here are the snowy prairies, not much to see!

I just read your last several blogs backward down to this one, I chuckled as every time there is a picture of snow somewhere in your blog it says "it's cold" at least twice. Any luck getting sweet tea up there? A Southern Belle yes but an adventerous one! Sounds like you had a blast!
